Even if you’ve been using an iPhone for years, chances are there are still some clever features tucked away in iOS that you haven’t noticed. From typing shortcuts to small design tweaks, these little tricks can save time, reduce frustration, and help you get more out of your iPhone.
Shift Your Keyboard for One-Handed Typing
Typing on today’s larger iPhones isn’t always comfortable, especially if you’re trying to do it with one hand. Luckily, there’s a built-in solution. By pressing and holding the emoji key on your keyboard, you’ll see three icons for different layouts. Choose left or right alignment, and the keyboard will slide closer to one side of the screen. That way, you can type more comfortably with just your thumb.
Move Multiple Apps Without Creating a Folder
Normally, moving apps means dragging them around one by one—or accidentally dropping them into a folder you didn’t want. But there’s a faster way. Start by holding down one app until it jiggles. Without lifting your first finger, tap on other apps with a second finger. Each one will “stack” under your original selection, letting you move them all at once. No folders, no mess—just an easy way to rearrange your home screen.
Reduce Motion Sickness When Using Your iPhone in the Car
If looking at your iPhone while riding in a car makes you dizzy, Apple has a little-known feature that can help. Head into Settings > Accessibility > Motion and turn on Vehicle Motion Cues. This adds small animated dots around the edges of your screen that move in sync with your car. The visual cues help your brain process movement more smoothly, which can reduce feelings of nausea.
Disable the Flashlight Shortcut on the Lock Screen
Accidentally turning on the flashlight when your iPhone is locked can get annoying fast. Thankfully, you can customize that lock screen shortcut. From your lock screen, press and hold until the wallpaper editing menu appears. Select Customize > Current Wallpaper, and you’ll have the option to remove or replace the flashlight icon. If you replace it, just make sure the new shortcut isn’t something you’ll tap by accident just as often.

Schedule Text Messages Ahead of Time
Whether you want to remind someone of an appointment or avoid sending a late-night text, message scheduling is a game-changer. In the Messages app, type your text as usual but instead of tapping the blue send arrow, hit the plus (+) button. Scroll down to Send Later, pick a time, and confirm. Your message will be delivered exactly when you want, even if you’re asleep or busy. Both you and your recipient just need to be on iOS for it to work.
